You know what is truly strange? My mom is 67. She has been in very poor health for a few years - she has polymyalgia rheumatica, a deteriorating muscle/joint disorder among other health issues. She used to be an extremely lively woman, full of health and vigor. The illness has her extremely depressed as she cannot do the things she used to do... She's tried the medications etc the doctors throw at her to no avail. She was raised Catholic - she prayed the rosary and all that, it didn't help. So what did I do? Simple. I gave her a copy of your MK translation with the specific instruction of "Mother, it's all about WILL. Read Adolf Hitler's story - and feel what he says. You may disagree with the words, but see how he took himself from Vienna flophouse to the Leader of Germany. If he could do this through sheer will and determination, you can WILL yourself to get out of bed and do things - to start to get back to yourself and LIVE once again." Lo and behold, she fell in love with your translation. She says how easy it is to read - and trust me, I have read other translators sections to her and she hates them... Yours captures a certain feel. If it had that scholarly vein, she NEVER would have read it, and I'm convinced she never would have started to move around and start getting he life back together.

She is not political and surely not a Nazi. She's a woman finding her WILL. That book is a testament to that. (especially Book 1, coincidentally the book that Manheim loses people in - which I believe is on purpose). Hitler has a gift for words - it was not perverse, it was truly a gift. He was a true motivator. It was a wonder more people did not follow him. Anyhow, my mom sends her thanks for the wonderful job you've done. And I thank you too... She says she will recommend the book to anyone - without fear of being ostracized...
